Principal’s Message

Welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Concord. May your child find our school a place of friendship, joy, discovery, challenge and learning.

Our dedicated and committed staff members at St Mary’s are aware of the special privilege they share with you in the education of your child. We work together with you to enable your child to develop their full potential spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically.

Our curriculum promotes a stimulating, enriched learning environment where each child is challenged to experience success and positive self-esteem. We recognise that children learn at different rates and in different ways. Therefore we provide learning experiences that are child centred, differentiated, relevant and meaningful.

I hope that you find the site information helpful and informative. Any further inquiries can be made by contacting the school office.

our historyOur History

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Concord has a long rich history in Concord. The school began in the first church at Concord between 1850 and 1853 with an enrolment of 41 boys and 27 girls. In 1883 The Sisters of Charity staffed the school with Sr Monica, Sr Camillus and Mother Gertrude who travelled each day by train from their convent in Ashfield to teach the 130 pupils. A new school was built in 1894 and a convent in 1898 through a generous bequest of the parish priest, Dean Callaghan McCarthy.

The composition of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School has changed several times with various new buildings being built and rebuilt over the years, beginning as an elementary school, progressing into high school and in 1963 returning to being a primary school for girls to sixth class and for boys to third class. It was still a large primary school of 498 pupils. St Mary’s then became a full primary school, catering for 609 boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 1989. In 2001 there was a major refurbishment of existing classes, a new library and classrooms were built.

Today the school is a modern, well-equipped school catering for both boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6. It is a part of the Archdiocesan system of schools supervised by the Sydney Catholic Schools. St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Concord continues to live out the ethos of its founders through service and love to ensure that every child is nurtured to realise their passions and strengths.
